Schwarzenegger Gets Tough With Water Conservation

Admin | February 27, 2009

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today is expected to declare a statewide drought
and order the state Department of Water Resources to quickly transfer water
to areas with the most severe water shortages.

The executive order also calls on the state water department to coordinate
with other state and federal agencies to assist water suppliers, identify
risks to water supply and help farmers facing losses as a result of water
shortages.

In addition, Schwarzenegger will urge local water districts and agencies to
promote water conservation when he announces his order this morning.

The declaration comes after two years of below-average rainfall in
California, low snowmelt runoff from the Sierra and the largest
court-ordered water transfer restrictions in state history, according to
the administration.

“There is no more time to waste because nothing is more vital to protect
our economy, our environment and our quality-of-life,” Schwarzenegger said
in a statement.

Water Conservation: RainReserve Rain Barrel System

Admin | February 21, 2009

RainReserveTM is easy to install and maintain, and is adaptable to any 2″x3″ or 3″x4″ downspout. The RainReserveTM Diverter Kits work in tandem with a rain barrel, and you can find large tanks to meet this need at many local vendors and suppliers. RainReserveTM does not ship these large reservoirs for sustainability reasons, but you can view examples of suitable containers and search a
RainReserveTM attaches to your downspout and diverts rainwater from your gutter system into the rain barrel while allowing leaves and other large debris to pass through the diverter and out the downspout. The result is naturally soft rainwater available and ready whenever you need it to water gardens and lawns, trees and houseplants, or for other non-potable uses.

Eric Bogle - The Band Played Waltzing Matilda

Admin | February 16, 2009

November 11 - Remembrance Day, 2007

“Waltzing Matilda” is a very famous Australian folk song and a “Matilda” was the name given to the pack that Australian farm workers carried on their backs.

To “Waltz Matilda” meant to carry your pack of belongings through the bush.

The song “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” by Eric Bogle is about 50,000 Australian soldiers who fought against Turkish troops and died in the Battle of Gallipoli in World War I.

Mixed with pictures from Gallipoli are pictures of past and present Canadian troops because this song and slideshow was played during a Remembrance Day assembly at a Canadian public school.

Information about this song was taken from this web page that talks about Eric Bogle’s performance of this song:
