tate and albuquerque leaders are looking for new ways to conserve water. it’s something israel has done for decades — and now local officials are turning to the israelis for help. austin reed is here to show us what “they” do that works. austin? israel recycles 80 percent of its water — here in new mexico it’s an average of just 4 minute thumbnail 06:35 pm percent. but our leaders here say we can and must do better. state and local politicians. business owners. and 10 water recycling companies from israel. gathering today in downtown albuquerque for an all important energy conference. we created the technologies in order to ensure we will have good and solid agriculture, portable water for our people and the new thing is israel is now producing water the state of israel says between drip irrigation, a number of massive water recycling facilities, plus big reservoirs that help save and consrerve the water so it can be recycled — has saved israel billions of gallons of water each and every year.

1. Not a single New Zealand dairy farm changed hands in August as overall farm sales fell again, figures released by the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) show. There were 51 farm sales nationwide in the month of August, compared to 146 in August 2008. August sales were 70% below average August sales over the past four years, the same as in July when there were 52 farm sales. There were no dairy farm sales in August, compared to 19 in August last year and 17 in August 2007. The overall total of 51 farm sales was dominated by 29 grazing farm sales, the same as in July, although these have dropped down from 79 sales in August 2008 and 81 in August 2007. 2. An Australian private equity firm has bought the New Zealand arm of fast food chain Burger King. Sydney-based Anchorage Capital Partners has been in talks with Burger King’s local owners, Dennis Jones and Mark Backhaus, for some months. Anchorage officially took over ownership of the 69 company-owned and two-franchised Burger King outlets yesterday. 3. The Australian government is pressuring Telstra into splitting into two separate businesses, leap-frogging New Zealand’s May 2006 reforms of Telecom with its own more draconian approach to regulation. 4. More green shoots. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke said the worst US recession since the 1930s has probably ended. Sales at US retailers surged in August by the most in three years, showing unexpected strength in consumer demand.

from the webmaster Although the device is efficient, in most all water heating applications it is difficult to economically justify a device. The company has moved towards the mixing and reaction chemistry applications and specialized heating applications. The system can heat water, but there are numerous competing technologies that can heat water and make steam that are much less capital intensive and often cheaper to operate, as electricity is an expensive and highly refined fuel when compared to gas, coal or oil. Because of this we ceased marketing home/residential heating systems and generic steam systems. Our core heating applications are now applications where: A fluid scales rapidly on a heat transfer surface Safety/operational concerns demand a flameless system for safety Total automation is needed and not available with conventional technology Our heating applications are largely niche applications where conventional technology falls short. Examples of heating applications well suited to the device include: Heating of food products such as cheese, eggs and chocolate Heating chemical and polymeric streams Heating industrial brines and heavy salt solutions Our company continues to strive to bring our customers the best industrial heating, mixing and reactor solutions. The Australian sheep industry is about to enter a new era that will offer faster, cheaper and more accurate breeding information. A new piece of technology called a SNP chip is in the final stages of development. The SNP chip is a small chip of glass that can hold up to 60000 known gene markers from sheep DNA. If validated, around a thousand of these gene markers will form the basis of an industry SNP chip, offering markers for the most sought after traits. These will then be embedded into Australian Sheep Breeding Values (asbvs) under the current suite of genetic improvement tools - namely LAMBPLAN and MERINOSELECT for all producers to use. DNA from a blood sample will show if any of the animals genes match the favourable genes on the industry 1000 SNP chip.

‘The Tanky Troopers’– a young group of kids and their parents– put up a street play at the American Embassy Schol on water conservation in their locality and how each person can contribute to eliminating the global fear of water shortage or global drought in the coming years. Witty, intelligent and thought provoking, the Tanky Troopers practise what they preach– going every morning around the colony to check on overflowing tanks and wasted water. They have been performing this play in their colony on multiple weekends and were filmed by top news channels as well as invited by UNDP to be a part of their program for Change, ‘Badlaav’.

Visit www.njrenewableenergy.com Rainwater can be used for watering your garden as well as for toilet flushing, laundry washing and bathing. Rainwater stored in food grade hogs can be used as an emergency potable water supply. Rainwater is soft water, which means that it wont cause a build up of calcium in your plumbing like hard water can. You can drink rainwater as long as your roofing material does not contain toxic materials. You will need to add a first flush diverter to the fine screen filter in the Inlet kit. Dont let your rainwater go to waste - the Rainwater HOG is functional, efficient and visually discreet rainwater storage! New Jersey is considered to be a “water rich” State, with an average rainfall of 45 inches per year. However, demands on our limited water supply due to population growth and development have increased greatly, making water conservation a prudent step for New Jersey’s citizens year round. During the peak irrigation months of April to October, when we experience hotter, drier summer conditions, it is even more important to conserve water in order to avoid mandatory water use restrictions. Summer outdoor water use increases as people wash cars, fill pools, and water lawns and gardens. Water conservation allows more water to remain in our streams, lakes and rivers for recreational uses and aesthetic enjoyment while also providing habitat for our wildlife. QUICK TIPS FOR CONSERVING WATER Install water conserving showerheads and faucet aerators in the bathroom and kitchen (available at most home improvement stores as well as some supermarkets); Turn off faucets when not in use, such as brushing your teeth or washing the dishes; Run washing machines and dishwashers only when they are full; Use a broom to sweep the sidewalk, rather than a hose; Water lawns only as needed. In New Jersey, usually one inch of water per week is all that is needed to maintain a healthy lawn. Irrigation timers should be set to water in the early morning (before 10 am) and should be turned off during and after rainfall; Water lawns (and outdoor plants) in the early morning hours (before 10 am) for shorter, more frequent periods to allow time for the soil to absorb the water and enable roots to grow deep, while avoiding rot and encouraging drought tolerance; Use mulch and native plants to conserve water in the garden; Use a rain barrel to capture water from a downspout to use later for watering gardens and plants; Use soaker hoses or drip irrigation to water trees, gardens and flower beds; For more detailed information, please click on the link below to enter an interactive water conserving website sponsored by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the California Urban Water Conservation Council. Here you will find useful information on how you can conserve water in and outside your home, product information, environmental benefits and cost estimates, along with a water calculator to figure where you can conserve water in your daily routine. Remember, if we all do a little, we can save a lot!
