Admin | May 11, 2010
Tasmanian tiger/big cats researcher-searcher since 1995 Michael Moss searches a tasmanian tiger hotspot inside Wilsons Promontory national park in South Gippsland Victoria the southern most point on mainland australia and also speaks about his detailed tasmanian tiger introduction theory and does a roll call of the known 24 native species introduced into the park. Also uncovered in the archives by him is the reason the native species were introduced.According to the committee of management that oversaw the introductions the reason they were introduced was quote ” to preserve native species that were under the threat of extinction in their native habitat” He firmly believes that there a no living tasmanian tigers in tasmania.NEWSFLASH 2/5/2010 Andrea a long time south gippsland resident and ex-poultry farmer contacted me today and claims quote”saw the tiger three times back in the1970s over a period of approx eight years.Farm backed onto heavy bush boardering the inverloch-leongatha road I have absolutely no doubt what i saw as one encounter was at a distance of approximately 5 meters.I dont know who got the bigger surprise me or it!.It was sitting behind our poultry shed eating the remains of a turkey we had slaughtered when i came around the corner there it was sitting and chewing,we looked right at each other i turned and ran i assumed it did the same thing. When we came straight back about 5 minutes or so later it was gone!” Interestingly i have three alleged sightings …

Sustainable Development (Highlights)
Admin | May 9, 2010
In this pair of films, designed for schools, Excellent Development provide case studies of their conservation driven development and community-led approach in semi-arid Kenya through the lenses of sustainable farming and sustainable development. These films and the series of mini-films which explore each individual element of the charity’s holistic approach to soil and water conservation offer a valuable insight into how communities can strengthen their long-term sustainability and make a positive grassroots contribution to fighting global climate change. The sustainable farming case study demonstrates how farmers address problems of soil erosion and water availability using terracing, sand dams & trees as a first step towards sustainable farming. The terracing and trees massively reduce soil erosion and keep more moisture in the farms while the sand dams harvest rain water allowing farmers to dedicate more time to their farms, try out new farming methods like zero-grazing and inter-cropping, diversify the range of their crops and work towards achieving food security and generating incomes. The sustainable Development case study explores why conservation of the environment has to be addressed first in order to make sustainable development possible in a semi-arid environment and looks at the impacts of soil and water conservation in terms of the improved availability of water and food, improvements in health, incomes and the positive contribution towards fighting climate …
alpacas grazing - Australian hobby farm
Admin | May 7, 2010
This herd of alpacas kept me amused for a few hours while I waited for some trains to film. A big white alpaca was clearly the leader and he spent a lot of his time keeping an eye on me while the others went about doing what alpacas do best - eat and play.

Homeowners and professional gardeners are turning to low-volume drip irrigation as a solution for keeping weeds, diseases, garden pests, scorching heat and high water bills at bay this summer. Converting existing spray heads into drip irrigation zones is easily done by using Rain Bird’s Drip Irrigation Retrofit Kit. A well designed drip irrigation system will minimize runoff and evaporation and keep plants healthier by reducing the stress on the plant during the warm summer months.
