The Alameda County Water District (ACWD) is pleased to present the Saving Blue music video. The classrooms featured in this video were the winners in the Saving Blue Song Writing Contest. Throughout the 2010-2011 school year, the musical duo ZunZun performed water conservation assemblies in schools throughout the ACWD service area. As a follow up to these assemblies, classrooms were asked to write verses for a new water conservation song ZunZun was working on. The prize for submitting one of the best three verses was the opportunity to perform on a ZunZun CD and to be featured in a music video. Congratulation to the three winners: Latsamy Colla’s 3rd/4th grade class at Kennedy Elementary School. Jason Boyer’s 5th grade class at Parkmont Elementary School. Entry from: Warrnambool, Australia Entry Title: “The Great Ocean Road” Entry: “Our next major destination after KI was the Great Ocean Road, one of the most scenic drives in the world. The road more or less follows the coast of the Southern Ocean for several hundred kilometers and, while aware of its magnificence, we were planning on finishing it and getting to Melbourne in two days. Well, we finally got to Melbourne after 5 days on the road, exhausted, with sensorial overload from the beautiful scenery and several hundred pictures from all the interesting sites we’ve encountered on our way. Every little town we’ve been through had something interesting to offer: a beautiful rose garden, a charming historical downtown, a special museum, an isolated beach or just spectacular views of the weather-battered coast. We are not able to describe all the places we’ve stopped to (the drive to Canberra is way too short), but will do our best listing the highlights. The first interesting site we’ve seen on the Great Ocean Road was actually on land: a huge wind farm close to Millicent, South Australia. This is supposed to be the largest wind farm in Australia and had well over 200 wind turbines, enough to power several tens of thousands households for one year. And we can testify to the huge potential these wind …

Entry from: Bowen, Australia Entry Title: “Bowen” Entry: “So after almost a whole year off work, we finally had to get a job, it was a sad moment! After a few weeks of searching, we finally found jobs picking tomatoes on Eatough farm a few kms outside of Bowen. We worked everyday from 6.30am until around 5.30pm, some days we finished earlier and some days we finished later and we got a day off every 6/7 days. We were put in teams of 13 pickers and a driver. The 13 pickers have a bucket each and have to walk through a row of tomato plants each with bushes on each side. You have to pick any tomatoes with colour and put them into your bucket. A full bucket is about 100 tomatoes and when you fill your bucket you have to shout ‘bucket’, then line up next to the truck, pass your bucket along the line of pickers and then the driver empties the bucket in the bins. A bin can hold 40 full buckets, for each full bin we got paid (which went up to 0 after a few weeks) between the 13 pickers. Sounds easy but the tomato bushes aren’t very high so you are basically bending over constantly and picking tomatoes. It was pure agony, the first few days were horrendous but we eventually got used to the pain but it didn’t stop, our bodies ached all over every night, even our hands were aching. The temperature on …
