Farming in a drought
Admin | July 23, 2011
This video is part of a story at climateXchange.aspacnet.org The video features Angus Gibson who owns and works on a fine wool merino sheep and beef cattle farm. This farm has been in the family since the late 1820’s and was handed down through the generations. It is just outside Goulburn on the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales The area has been experiencing severe widespread drought for the last five years and this has severely impacted on Angus, his family and the property in a number of ways. Some parts of the property can’t be used any more because the dams are dry, and hay for the animals has to be transported from as far away as Adelaide. For the first time in over 150 years they had to destock the property of sheep. Angus also reflects on how the drought will also affect people all over Australia because the scarcity of meat and other agricultural products from these areas will drive prices higher.

Raisin ( jersey) Kimiiko ( angus cross freisian) were both rescued from dairy farms around my local area. Chester the lamb was born at my highschool ag farm, he was a orphan, so i took him home and reared him, but if the school reared him he would of been fatterned up and sent to wingham export and would of faced the fate of over 1.9 million australian sheep every year. if u have any questions about any of these industrys please ask

Holy Springs: Water Conservation in Northern India | Global 3000
Admin | July 15, 2011
Climate change is taking its toll on the holy springs of the northeast Indian mountains, despite the latter enjoying divine protection. A decrease in rainfall has seen a decrease in the water they provide. Local farmers in the state of Sikkim are now fighting for their livelihoods. With 80 percent of them dependent on the springs, theycannot afford to waste a single drop of rain. But deforestation and dry weather have made water a precious commodity. The government has now joined forces with the WWF to take action.
Victorian Desalination Plant Areas of concern

Desal plant locks us into high impact water futures The announcement by the Brumby Government of the desalination plant proponents will lock Victoria into a high emissions, high impact water future. The government has had ample opportunities to choose another, lower impact option for meeting our future water needs, and there is growing public sentiment against both the current proposals for the desalination plant and North South pipeline. The Faces of Australian Farming and Live Export
Admin | July 7, 2011
In Australia, millions of animals suffer from horrific brutality & cruelty before death. We factory farm most of our animals, live export millions of them, feed them hormones to make them produce more milk, or grow faster for the slaughter. We mules our sheep with shearers & castrate piglets with no anaestetic. Before Australians point the finger at other countries for brutal treatment of farm animals; we should begin by looking at how they are treated here.

That’s food safety.” —- Joel Salatin has been featured in Michael Pollan’s book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, and in the films Fresh and Food Inc. He is also the author of six books including Family Friendly Farming, Salad Bar Beef, and his latest, Everything I Want To Do is Illegal: War Stories from the Local Food Front. He is a full-time farmer of the highly successful Polyface Farms, and winner of the Heinz International Award for Environmental Leadership.
