Be a part of the 2012 International Emerging Technology Symposium: forms.iapmo.org “Water Conservation — Impact of Residential Plumbing System Design” - Craig Selover, Masco Corporation - Part 1 of 3 This presentation will provide a brief review of the water conservation provisions of a commercial green building program and how WaterSense for Homes will impact it. The majority of the presentation will then deal with next steps in generating data to support further increasing water efficiency, stemming from two month baseline data and observations from a Residential Home Water Use Study of 4 homes over an 8 week period. This presentation was part of the 2010 International Emerging Technology Symposium, a two-day event that provided participants with an opportunity to view presentations and engage in timely discussions on how the water utility, manufacturing, engineering, and trade industries have found solutions through emerging technologies in the water efficiency, plumbing and mechanical industries. A PDF of the PowerPoint can be downloaded at www.iapmo.org

Lake King is five and a half hours’ drive east of Perth. The town is a stopping place for visitors travelling across arid country and through Frank Hann National Park to Norseman. It is a crossroads centre with a tavern and several stores. DON PUGH CARAVAN TRIP 2008 In season the surrounding countryside puts on a wonderful display of colourful wildflowers. Visit the Lake King saltwater lake, picnic at the Mount Madden Cairn and Lookout, or visit a yabby (small freshwater rock lobster) farm. The Frank Hann National Park is located 25 kilometres to the east of town and offers a good representation of the heath flora of inland sand plains. Lake King offers bed and breakfasts, hotel/motel accommodation and a caravan park. DON PUGH CARAVAN TRIP 2008

His name is Peter Spencer, he’s a farmer in New South Wales, and his livelihood has been stolen by the Australian government in the name of — you guessed it — “combatting climate change.” That’s why he is now sitting atop that windblown tower you see in the photograph, on sheep farmland rendered useless by eco-legislation, starving himself to death in protest at his government’s callous disregard for his property rights. This is his 46th day on hunger strike. Jo Nova has been following the story closely. Here’s the eco-political background: As a part of Australia’s commitment to protect native vegetation and to reduce carbon emissions under the Kyoto protocol, Peter Spencer and thousands of farmers like him, have been subjected to a government imposed ban on land clearing. The saved trees are natural carbon sinks worth an estimated .8 billion to the government in reduced carbon emissions, should Kevin Rudd’s emissions trading scheme go ahead. But the farmers, who can no longer develop this land have received no compensation. Peter Spencer is among the victims of this legalised theft. He first told his story here in 2006. In recent decades, thousands of farms have become economically marginal and have gone out of business. What is not widely known is that this “marginality” has often been the result not of market forces but of government regulation. In particular, governments in pursuit of urban green votes have imposed a vast range of devastating new costs on farmers …
