Help Conserve Water!

Admin | October 14, 2011

Please Watch! This is for a school project… please help the world keep the water clean, as well as conserving it! You can help by not throwing everything down your toilet. If you have medication you want to get rid of, give it to your local pharmacy and they’ll help you take care of it there. Don’t wash your car on the driveway because it’ll all end up back into the river untreated. If you go to a car washing place, the water gets treated before going back into the river. Don’t pour chemicals down the drain! Call and find a place where they can professionally get rid of it without putting it back into our water. Our water on earth is limited and is disappearing because we use it faster than it gets replenished. Keep all the water left on earth drinkable!! Please show this to your friends and family… spread the word! 5 Tips for Conserving Water: 1) Save water from washing fruits and vegetables or such, and use it to water your plants and garden(do that by putting a large bowl underneath) Why? Saving the water from washing fruits and vegetables is saving water from just going down the drain. That saves a significant amount of water. 2) Drink water from only ONE designated cup Why? Constantly using different cups will lead to washing more cups. Washing more cups will use up more water. 3) Only wash full loads of laundry Why? You should do that because a larger load of laundry uses a smaller amount of water than an equivalent amount of laundry seperated into two different

How To Save Water in Six Easy Ways

Expand the description and view the text of the steps for this how-to video. Check out Howcast for other do-it-yourself videos from Lex_Bangladesh and more videos in the Energy and Resource Conservation category. You can contribute too! Create your own DIY guide at www.howcast.com or produce your own Howcast spots with the Howcast Filmmakers Program at www.howcast.com Are you really doing all you can to conserve water, our most precious resource? Here are some simple ways you may not have thought of. To complete this How-To you will need: Food coloring A water jug A broom A spray bottle Step 1: Ask yourself if you really want water Only ask restaurant servers to bring you a glass of water and refill it if you’re planning to drink it. Step 2: Check your toilet Make sure your toilet isn’t leaking by putting a drop of food coloring in the tank. If it shows up in the bowl a few minutes later and you haven’t flushed, you have a leak. Tip: A leaky toilet can waste 200 gallons of water a day! Step 3: Keep cold water on hand If you drink tap water at home, keep a jug of it in the fridge so you don’t have to run the water until it’s cold. Step 4: Recycle veggie water Wash fruits and vegetables in a basin rather than under running water, then use that water, and any you used to boil vegetables, to water your plants. In addition to saving water, you’ll give them extra nutrients. Or save boiled veggie water to start a soup stock. Tip: If you have a dehumidifier, use the water on

HydroClean’s Calibration Feature Saves 36% of Home Water Use

Admin | October 4, 2011

The HydroClean saves water and detects leaks. An independent study showed that these capabilities increased toilet flushing efficiency by 36% on average. Ordinary fill valves are miscalibrated and deliver too much water to the bowl, costing homeowners thousands of gallons of water every year. The HydroClean is the only fill valve that can be accurately calibrated to almost any toilet.

Victorian Desalination Plant Areas of concern

Admin | July 13, 2011

Desal plant locks us into high impact water futures The announcement by the Brumby Government of the desalination plant proponents will lock Victoria into a high emissions, high impact water future. The government has had ample opportunities to choose another, lower impact option for meeting our future water needs, and there is growing public sentiment against both the current proposals for the desalination plant and North South pipeline. BASS Coast Shire called for the State Government to consider building its desalination plant somewhere other than Wonthaggi

Organic Farming Video, Australia, How to - Broadacre

Admin | May 27, 2011

Download the film - www.overlander.tv or watch the entire program, all 44 videos, on youtube playlist - www.youtube.com Organic farming is currently receiving a lot of attention. Many farmers are keen to give organics ago but are unsure about the process involved and it’s viability. A new video produced by Mark Shea of Overlander.tv, hopes to demystify organic farming by bringing together some of Australias top commercial organic and non-toxic farmers, and ask them how they manage their enterprises without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Mark joined a tour led by Nuffield Farming Scholar Don MacFarlane which took in ten different properties including the Victorian Agricultural Research Centre. The great thing about the video is that it allows the farmers involved to tell their own story on why they went organic, how they went about it and whether it has been a viable move. The video covers such diverse farming enterprises as organic cattle, sheep, poultry, pigs, grain, wine, fruit and vegetables.

Gippsland wind farm fight

Admin | August 20, 2010

PLANNING Minister Justin Madden is facing a legal challenge to his approval of taller turbines at a controversial South Gippsland wind farm. There are about 20 homes less than 1km away . Japanese company Mitsui is preparing to build the 52 turbine Bald Hills Wind Farm 10km south east of Tarwin Lower.. Premier John Brumby and Environment Minister Gavin Jennings accused the Coalition of spruiking “anti renewable energy” policies that jeopardised “billions of dollars of investment in wind farms and thousands of jobs”. Turbines aren’t welcome in your area , South Gippsland has a desalination plant and now more wind farms thanks Planning Minister Windfarms are noisy neighbours. No one wants them anywhere near their home. The brumby governement has done nothing to help rural people having these developments put to close to their homes and farms

Water, People and the Future - News CAST

Admin | August 17, 2010

A new CAST science paper addresses the need to protecting America’s sustainable water resources. Scientists predict that by the year 2050 the US population will have increased by 25 percent. This growing population will place a higher demand on water supplies as well as increase the demand for more food production across the nation. How will this increase in water consumption affect the availability of fresh water? How will this increase in water consumption affect the way we use water for agriculture to feed our growing population?

Sustainable Farming (Highlights)

Admin | June 13, 2010

In this pair of films, designed for schools, Excellent Development provide case studies of their conservation driven development and community-led approach in semi-arid Kenya through the lenses of sustainable farming and sustainable development. These films and the series of mini-films which explore each individual element of the charity’s holistic approach to soil and water conservation offer a valuable insight into how communities can strengthen their long-term sustainability and make a positive grassroots contribution to fighting global climate change. The sustainable farming case study demonstrates how farmers address problems of soil erosion and water availability using terracing, sand dams & trees as a first step towards sustainable farming. The terracing and trees massively reduce soil erosion and keep more moisture in the farms while the sand dams harvest rain water allowing farmers to dedicate more time to their farms, try out new farming methods like zero-grazing and inter-cropping, diversify the range of their crops and work towards achieving food security and generating incomes. The sustainable Development case study explores why conservation of the environment has to be addressed first in order to make sustainable development possible in a semi-arid environment and looks at the impacts of soil and water conservation in terms of the improved availability of water and food, improvements in health, incomes and the positive contribution towards fighting climate

The Fun Theory - Fish Fun

Admin | June 4, 2010

Water conservation is tricky. Signs and shocking statistics do little to change behavior. Enter FUN. Imagine a virtual fish tank behind the water faucet. The water level is connected to how much water is being used. If you leave the water running while brushing your teeth or lathering your hands, the water level lowers. You need to be smart about how much water you use so you leave water for the fish to live. The water slowly refills as the faucet is off. This fun and memorable connection will remind people to conserve water wherever they are, not just while in front of the animation!

The Role of Social Norms in Energy and Water Conservation

Admin | March 18, 2010

Managers and marketers can motivate consumers to participate in environmental conservation programs by telling them how the majority of other people behaved in the same situation. Researchers specifically studied how to ask hotel guests whether or not they wanted to reuse their towels during the course of a stay.
