TAIWAN’S HIGH MOUNTAIN QING-JING SHEEP FARM ??????
Admin | February 3, 2011
The Qingiing Sheep Show area is perched eastwards above the main Qingjing Village ( Cingjing Veterans’ Farm ) on Taiwan’s Central Cross Island Highway (Route 14) in Nantou County; also between Renai Township and Mt. Hehuan; 8 km northeast of Wushe. Originally, the Qingjing area was home to War Veterans who farmed the land. The Farm was opened to public on February 20th, 1961, and from then on became a major tourism destination, partly or mostly due to the fact that some kilometers further up the highway is Taiwan’s most popular High Mountain playground Mt. Hehuan Motorist wishing to reach Mt. Hehuan from the west side of the Island must pass directly through the Qingjing area which offers Resorts, Private lodging, Roadside stalls selling locally grown fruits and vegetables, Art crafts, restaurants etc. For some, it is just another Tourist trap but, for others, it is a beautiful place to spend the night or just take a break. Much of the Resorts, houses etc in this area were built of Swiss and Old English design, and with the rolling green hillsides, the High mountain Backdrop and Cypress trees throughout the area, one could easily imagine that they were actually some where in Switzerland. Every Sunday at 9:30am, the Qingjing sheep farm puts on a European style sheep roundup, sheep shearing and bullwhip show. The Star of this show is a New Zealander who lives in Taiwan.
